Latest Update on Manufacturing in Haiti

It’s been a bit since we provided an update on manufacturing in Haiti. As we value transparency, we want to keep you in the know. Even better, we have some exciting news to share!
In case any of you are new to this conversation, here’s a little history: As gang members stormed the port in Port au Prince, Haiti, in March 2024, Life S.A., our manufacturing partner in Haiti, made the decision to cease operations until the gang activity calmed down. The situation has not calmed down and has, in fact, escalated. As the closure lingered, many generous members of our community stepped forward, providing funds so GO Haiti, our non-profit sister org, could provide life-giving stipends to former employees of Life S.A. so they could care for their families. In the Summer of 2024, Life S.A. was officially dissolved and registered with the government as out of business.
Here's the good news!
GOEX was already in the process of creating a new entity in Haiti, consolidating ownership and streamlining operations. And we owned all of the sewing machines and other production equipment at the factory. So, in the fall of 2024, we made the decision to complete the process of establishing the new company, GOEX Haiti S.A., locating a new facility in a more stable area of the city and moving our equipment. We are currently completing significant facility improvements to meet Better Work and Fair Trade standards.
We are tentatively scheduled to open the factory on July 7th! Watch for more information as we get closer. We are planning opportunities to celebrate when we are finally able to open the doors to the new factory and, once again, use this business to create life-giving opportunities for families in Haiti.
